About Michael Che:
Michael Che is a fresh voice on the comedy scene. A native of Lower Manhattan, Che's comedy blends street culture with world issues to hilarious results.
Che is a standup comic from the Lower East Side of Manhattan. As the youngest of seven children, he has been his family's source of comic relief since he was old enough to wear diapers. Growing up with much older siblings, Che became familiar with standup comedy at a very young age while watching Eddie Murphy and Damon Wayans' specials with his siblings. However, it wasn't until he attended LaGuardia Music & Performing Arts High School that he realized performing could be a future career. As a performer, Che sites Patrice O'Neal and George Carlin as his biggest influences. He appreciates performers who can identify humanity in the most controversial actions and convey it to the audience through humor, which is the approach he takes with his comedy.
Che has been featured and headlined at major comedy clubs throughout Manhattan including: Caroline's on Broadway, Comic Strip Live, Standup NY and EastVille Comedy Club. He has also built a name for himself playing the alternative rooms in New York's downtown scene.
In 2011, Che was named one of Comedy Central’s “Comics to Watch.” He has appeared on “Shaq’s All-Star Comedy Jam” and can be seen on Television this summer on “John Oliver's New York Stand-Up Show” on Comedy Central and as a recurring contestant on IFC's new comedy game show "Bunk."
